    Heimlich Chest drain valve

    Contact us For Quote
The Heimlich valve is a small one-way valve used for chest drainage that empties into a flexible collection device and prevents return of gases or fluids into the pleural space. The Heimlich chest drainage valve was developed so that the process of draining the pleural cavity could be accomplished in a safe, relatively simple, and efficient manner. This valve system has replaced the cumbersome underwater drainage bottle system. Moreover; the Heimlich valve system connects to chest tubing and allows fluid and air to pass in one direction only.

    General information

Used to control the evacuation of fluids or air from a thoracic drain; prevents backflow.

Suitable for use during the transport of patients.

Not recommended for draining the chest after a pneumonectomy.

    Specifications

The drain valve is comprised of a transparent single monobloc chamber with tapered ends, a one-way valve and rigid connectors at both ends. (e.g., Manufacturer BD, Ref: 3460)

    Materials:

    PVC: Chamber including connectors.

    Latex: valve.

    Description:

Valve: The Heimlich Chest Drain Valve is a specially-designed flutter valve used to replace underwater bottles seal in chest drainage, ideal during patient transport.

The valve, which is constructed of rubber tubing, is compressed at one end to form leaflets that control a unidirectional flow.

Chamber: Single and transparent, including connectors indicating the direction of flow.

Proximal connector, blue colour for lung side.

Distal connector, white colour for collector side.

Both connectors increase in diameter towards the chamber, permitting safe connection for the chest tube and to secure the distal end connected to the plastic bag.

    Unit presentation:

1 unit, sterile, single-use, peel pack.

    Packaging:

    Boxes of 10 units.

    Protective packaging: carton.

Each carton and peel pack to be clearly marked with the expiry date, batch number and manufacturer reference number.

    Other requirements:

Comply with Medical Device Directive 93/42/EEC, CE marked with reference number of notifying body.
